Our client is a long-standing Spanish transport company with over 100 years' experience in the transport and logistics industry.
In 1997, it began its international expansion and now provides services in the 27 countries of the European Union, Morocco, Russia and Turkey. The company has a team of over 200 people based at its headquarters in Cantabria, Madrid and Irún.
The company is looking to recruit an Operations Manager for its headquarters in Cantabria.
Purpose of the position
To plan, coordinate, supervise and optimise all operational activities related to the transport of goods by land, both nationally and internationally, ensuring compliance with deadlines, the legality of the service, customer satisfaction and cost efficiency.
Main Responsibilities
- Operational Management
- Coordinate and supervise transport routes, loads and deliveries.
- Ensure compliance with logistics planning and established transit times.
- Manage the vehicle fleet (own and/or subcontracted) and ensure its availability, maintenance and performance.
- Staff Supervision
- Lead the traffic team, drivers and operational staff.
- Assign tasks, monitor performance and promote continuous training for the team.
- Customer and Supplier Relations
- Coordinate with customers to ensure compliance with contracted services.
- Negotiate and supervise agreements with external transporters, workshops, fuel suppliers, etc.
- Document and Legal Management
- Supervise the correct documentation of transport services (delivery notes, CMR, permits, etc.).
- Ensure compliance with national and international transport and customs regulations.
- Analysis and Continuous Improvement
- Analyse performance indicators (KPIs) and propose improvements to operational processes.
- Identify inefficiencies and implement solutions that optimise costs, time and resources.
- Incident Management
- Effectively resolve operational incidents, delays, complaints or accidents.
Job Requirements
- Academic Qualifications
- University degree in Logistics, Transport, Industrial Engineering or related fields (desirable).
- Additional training in logistics management, transport regulations and international trade (valued).
- Experience
- Minimum 5-7 years' experience in a similar position within the land freight transport sector.
- Technical knowledge
- Proficiency in national and international transport and customs regulations.
- Knowledge of transport management systems (TMS) and GPS.
- Proficiency in spreadsheets, ERP and logistics planning tools.
- Languages
- Native or fluent Spanish.
- Intermediate-advanced level of English (essential for international operations).
- Other languages (valued, such as French or German).
